To investigate the most heinous crimes of the twentieth century - genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, the international community has set up ad hoc tribunals such as the International Military Tribunals at Nuremberg and Tokyo, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia. However, genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes remain a grim reality of the world today.

A recent report investigating the events of April 2009 provides further insight into the causes and consequences of the demonstrations that led to the partial destruction of the Moldovan Presidential and Parliamentary buildings. Within the last two-three months a number of directors of state companies, or companies the state holds the major share of capital in, have been replaced, e.g. the general director of state company Moldelectrica and the directors of joint-stock companies Moldovagaz, Tutun-CTC, Energocom, Giuvaier, etc. According to the media that announce extraordinary meetings of shareholders, other directors of state companies could also be replaced the following days.
