Cheap bread not to be found in stores

The cheap bread is not to be found in every store in Chisinau. Sellers and managers of stores say Franzeluta bakery continues to deliver bread to them at the same prices, while the state incumbent bakery says it dropped the prices of three types of bread from February 1.

2009-02-02/16:44/ Chisinau (IPN) "We had big problems on February 1. The customers kept us asking for cheap bread that we did not have. Lots of complaints have been written, that we'll forward to our managers," says Maria Plesca, the manager of a food store in Chisinau. Other store managers have voiced the same complaints, when asked by Info-Prim Neo.

"SA Franzeluta did make the price cuts spoken about. Our specialized shops display new prices. If other stores have not done so, it means they breech the law. We're not responsible for them," commented Eugen Baleca, the manager of Franzeluta.

Some vendors say the price cut of some bread was preceded by a price hike in other types. On January 27, twisted bread grew 75 bani, from 3.50 to 4.25 lei/a piece. On the other hand there is very little cheap bread in those stores. "There's not enough bread, the people quarrel staying in queues," says Nadejada Garaz, a shop assistant from Chisinau.

SA Franzeluta is a state owned company, which produces 40% of social bread in its total amount. Starting February 1, its shops dropped the prices of some types of bread. The "Chisinau" bread dropped from 1.90 to 1.50 lei, the "Codru" bread - from 2.05 to 1.50 lei and "Painea Alba" - from 1.75 to 1.30 lei/apiece.
