Chisinau, July 24 ( INFOTAG ). LP Chairman Mihai Ghimpu convened a news conference on Thursday in response to the statements, and, in his turn, accused the Office of manipulating facts and voters' opinions.

In particular, he mentioned the story of LP parliamentary candidate Mihai Pascovschi, against whom the Office initiated a legal action on charges of his participation in the April 7 actions, though he had been absent from Moldova from November 2008 to May 2009.

Pascovschi stated, "As a participant in a European program, I was taking a course of training at the Municipality of Rome. My passport contains stamps of entry and exit visas made at the Leuseni border-crossing station [on the Romanian border], so one can easily see that I was not available in Moldova on April 7".

He also remarked that the Prosecutor General's Office "is obviously reluctant to investigate and reveal genuine instigators and participants in the April 7 riots. Instead, the Office is trying to intimidate the opposition".

Mihai Ghimpu remarked this concrete example demonstrates to which extent the Office's investigations and statements can be regarded as something founded.
