Communists will not have the majority

The Moldovan Communist Party (MCP) won more votes than any other political force at the July 29 early parliamentary elections, but will all the same receive less than a half of mandates in the 101-member Parliament of Moldova, the Central Election Commission told Infotag upon processing of 98% ballots on early Thursday morning.

Chisinau, July 30 ( INFOTAG ). According to yet preliminary data, the Communist Party won 45.1% ballots, the Liberal Democratic Party 16.4%, the Liberal Party 14.4%, the Democratic Party 12.5%, and the Moldova Noastra Alliance 7.4%.

The rest three organizations failed to clear a 5% electoral barrier, namely the Social Democratic Party won only 1.97%, the Christian Democratic Popular Party 1.92%, and the "Alianţa Verde" [Green Alliance] Ecological Party 0.4%. The voter turnout was 58.8%, with the minimum necessary turnout being 33% plus 1 vote.

With such electoral achievements, mandates in the legislative forum should be distributed as follows: the Communist Party is going to receive 48 mandates, the Liberal Democratic Party 17, the Liberal Party 15, the Democratic Party 13, and the Moldova Noastra Alliance - 8 mandates.

Thus the four opposition parties, which began negotiations yet last night on forming a governing coalition, are going to receive 53 mandates - enough to form a Government (52), but not sufficient to elect President of Moldova (61).
