"The opening of the Romanian consulates in Balti and Cahul will be beneficial for the Moldovan people, who have encountered economic and time-related problems as they have to travel to the consulate in Chisinau and queue up there for many hours," Moldova's Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca said, commenting on the Romanian President Traian Basescu's decree to open two new consulates in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports.

Iurie Leanca reiterated the Moldovan authorities' readiness to open the two consulates, but said he possess no other information.

"As the Romanian colleagues informed, the buildings where the two consulates will be based have been identified," Leanca said, specifying that all the details concern internal matters of Romania. "We want that the two consulates be opened as soon as possible."

Iurie Leanca also said that Moldova is considering the possibility of opening a general consulate in Iasi.
