This sum was planned at the meeting of the Donors' Consultative Group for Moldova held in Brussels in March."The agreement focuses on the most important areas for us - competitiveness of the private sector (US$8.8m) and economic opportunities (US$1.2m)," said Prime Minister Vlad Filat.

The Premier stressed the Agricultural Competitiveness and Enterprise Development Project will provide assistance in developing small and medium-sized enterprises in agriculture and increasing competitiveness. The project covers the Transnistrian region as well. The Business Regulation and Tax Administration Reform Project will help reduce the costs of doing business and improve the Moldovan Government's capacity to collect taxes and increase revenues.

"We hope the given agreement will help Moldova built a vibrant economy, will contribute to the creation of new workplaces, will improve the Government's capacity to increase the incomes and develop Moldova's economy," said the U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Asif Chaudhry.

During the last few months, Moldova and the U.S have signed a number of agreements, including the Compact Program of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, the Memorandum of Cooperation between Moldova and North Carolina and others.
