World Bank president to pay first-ever visit to Moldova

Victor Neagu, head of the press service of the World Bank Office in Moldova, told your Infotag correspondent that, so far, Mr. Zoellick's visit program has not been approved finally, but it is known for sure that he will meet with the country's top officials and the leaders of main political forces.
Neagu said the World Bank President's visit will be dedicated mainly to discussing the world crisis influence on Moldova and to the support the World Bank provides to the republic.
Infotag's dossier: The World Bank was founded in 1944. The Republic of Moldova became its member in 1992, and the following year the World Bank Office was opened in Chisinau. The World Bank has undertaken to provide assistance to Moldova to an amount of US$800 million, of which over US$500 has already come. Robert Zoellick is the World Bank's 11th president. He was elected to the post on July 1, 2007, replacing his predecessor Paul Wolfowitz. Before that appointment, Robert Zoellick was the governing manager of one of the world's leading commercial banks, the Goldman Sachs, founded 111 years ago in the United States and known in financial circles as The Firm.
