Mihai Ghimpu: Parliament may not be dissolved if country is plunged into chaos

Acting President Mihai Ghimpu Wednesday said he will consider dissolving the legislative body after the September 5 constitutional referendum and his decision will depend on the results of the plebiscite.

"I will not allow Moldova to be engulfed in a chaos," Mihai Ghimpu said, adding the constitutional and social crisis will be overcome only if the President is elected, Info-Prim Neo reports.

In the program "Politics Live" on Moldova 1, Mihai Ghimpu said that the PCRM is boycotting the referendum and this means that "Voronin works for Ghimpu". "Voronin and the PCRM did not anticipate that Ghimpu will become head of state if they do not vote in Marian Lupu. Voronin does not like my politics, but in this case Voronin works for Ghimpu. If they resort to boycott and the referendum does not take place, there will be no elections and I will remain Acting President until I dissolve Parliament," he said.

Asked when he intends to dissolve the legislature, Mihai Ghimpu said he does not know. He stated that though the leaders of the AEI and a number of international organizations agreed that the parliamentary and presidential elections must take place in autumn, his decision will depend on the results of the September 5 constitutional referendum.
