20 parties have registered in the current election campaign. Many people say it is a too big number for such a small country as Moldova. At the same time, much more parties could take part in the election campaign.
The Prosecutor General's Office Got Involved in Mocanu-Plahotniuc Scandal
The Prosecutor General's Office announced on Wednesday, 25th of August, in a press release, that the information regarding the businessman Vlad Plahotniuc's illegal activity has become frequent in mass media.
The first accusations against Vlad Plahotniuc were launched by the ex-Councilor of President Sergiu Mocanu in his blog. Mocanu accused Plahotniuc of controlling the mafia network infiltrated into the state structures. According to Mocanu, Plahotniuc has infiltrated into all state structures such as the Economic Crimes and Corruption Combating Center, the Information and Security Service, the Prosecutor General's Office, the National Bank, etc.
At the following press conferences, Mocanu confirmed the accusations coming up with businessmen whose businesses were taken by Plahotniuc. Spiridon Danilesu, the former director of Franzeluţa, Ilie Rotaru, the former administrator of Gemenii, Anatolie Câşlaru, Carmez Director General, Viorel Ţopa, Victoriabank shareholder and others were among them.
In his turn, Vlad Plahotniuc brought an action against Sergiu Mocanu demanding 2 million leis of compensation. He also warned that he would sue everyone supporting Mocanu's accusations.
