20 parties have registered in the current election campaign. Many people say it is a too big number for such a small country as Moldova. At the same time, much more parties could take part in the election campaign.

1,399 candidates aspiring 1001 seats in Moldovan Parliament

54 persons are members of the outgoing Parliament, the Central Election Commission told.

As many as 1,399 candidates are standing for mandates of the 101-member Parliament of Moldova, the Central Election Commission told.

Fifteen contender political parties have nominated 1,393 candidates. Namely, nine formations have nominated 103 candidates each - the Social Democratic Party, the Liberal Party, the Moldova Noastra Alliance, the Christian Democratic Popular Party, the Moldovan Communist Party, the Liberal Democratic Party, the Democratic Party, the Centrist Union of Moldova, and the Acţiunea Europeană [European Action] socio-political movement.

The "Moldova Unită" Party of Spiritual Development and the Conservative Party have 101 candidates each, the "Alianţa Verde" [Green Alliance] Ecological Party - 97, the Party "Pentru Neam şi Tara" ["For People and Country"] and the Patria-Rodina Labor Union - 53 each, and the Republican Party has 61 candidates.

The April 5 election campaign is involving also 6 independent candidates - Sergiu Banari, Stefan Uritu, Victor Railean, Tatiana Timbalist, Alexander Lomakin, and Valentina Cusnir.

Of all the 1,399 candidates, 54 persons (including independent Valentina Cusnir) are members of the outgoing Parliament.
