About 6,700 young people obtained identity cards for free in 2011

Since the beginning of the year, about 6,700 young people, aged 16-18 years, obtained identity cards free of charge. In tote, over last 5 years, about 105,200 citizens of Moldova became holders of identity documents within the campaign Identity Cards to Young People of Moldova.

According to representative of the state enterprise Registru, Angela Chicu, the campaign is held every year starting from April 20 till May 20.

"Proceeding from estimates made by Registru and data of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), about 70,000 persons more could get identity cards. Thus, in tote, 184,675 persons were born at the Moldovan territory in 1993-1995 and will attain or attained the age of 16-18 this year", she said.

Most campaign participants were registered in raions of Anenii Noi, Bulcanesti, Singerei, Edinet, Riscani, Floresti, Telenesti and Ialoveni.

The campaign is held for 5th year running. It was announced throughout the country and is destined for schoolchildren and students of different educational institutions, who attained the age of 16.

The campaign's goal is to stir up the documenting process and ensure country students with identity cards.

At attaining the age of 16 years, young people must get identity cards. The cost of a document issued within a month is 130 lei.
