20 parties have registered in the current election campaign. Many people say it is a too big number for such a small country as Moldova. At the same time, much more parties could take part in the election campaign.

Mayor says lp councilors shall not show up in city hall until question of aei coalitions in raions has been solved

The Liberal Party's members of the Chisinau Municipal Council shall not participate in the city legislature's plenary meetings until the question of AEI coalitions formation in Moldovan raions has been finally resolved, Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca stated to the press in the City Hall after the new Council's first working meeting had failed to be held due to the boycott undertaken by the representatives of the three AEI parties in the municipal forum.

Chirtoaca confessed the situation around Raion Councils is worrying him and his party comrades.

"We are alarmed with the developments in the raions of Briceni, Edinet, Singerei, where AEI/Communist coalitions have emerged in Raion Councils. Things in provincial regions must develop the way the governing Alliance for European Integration has decided from the very beginning: no coalitions with the Communists whatever!" stated the First Deputy Chairperson of the Liberal Party, Dorin Chirtoaca.

He complimented the majority Communist faction [of 26] for their coming to the Council's first working meeting.

Chirtoaca refuted point blank the statements being heard today from the Liberal Democrats - that they allegedly decided to not come out for work on the Liberals' request.

"No, we just announced that we were not going. We did not ask our colleagues from the LDPM or DP to support our initiative", said the Chisinau Mayor.
