20 parties have registered in the current election campaign. Many people say it is a too big number for such a small country as Moldova. At the same time, much more parties could take part in the election campaign.

Mihai Ghimpu aggravates tension in the governing coalition - Liberal Democrats

The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (LDPM) presumes that the Liberal Party Chairman and former Acting President of Moldova, MP Mihai Ghimpu, is only aggravating tension in the governing Alliance for European Integration - this time with his unfounded insinuations against Chairman of the parliamentary Standing Committee for Economic Policy, Budget and Finance Veaceslav Ionita, a Liberal Democrat.

Chairman of the parliamentary Liberal Democratic faction Valeriu Strelet stated at a news conference today that Ghimpu appears to be just unable to bridle his emotions.

"Ghimpu must obey to rules and observe an established procedure, i.e. to wait for the report to be submitted by the ad hoc parliamentary investigation commission. When the Commission presents its conclusion on who has committed a mistake in the so-called Casino Law, Mihai Ghimpu, like any other lawmaker, will be eligible to stand up with remarks, comments or objections", said Valeriu Strelet.

In his words, Veaceslav Ionita is currently not available in Moldova, but when he comes back home, "who knows, he may well decide to sue Ghimpu in the court for his insulting sayings".

"As for us, we want very much to vivify the Alliance and its work. And those, who have run out of all constructive ideas, seem to be backing the governing coalition reluctantly and in the condition of a constant stress, so as to have the possibility to state, when need be, that there is no more force to rule the country team-like", presumes Valeriu Strelet.

His party comrade MP Tudor Deliu added that prior to throwing accusations Ghimpu should recollect the presumption of innocence.

"Being a great lawyer, as Ghimpu himself believes, he should certainly know that a person may not be accused without providing evidence. Without meaning Mr. Ghimpu here, I should remind that it is a thief who usually cries 'Catch thief!' the loudest. We do hope the investigation commission will present its report this week, though we understand that parliamentarians are certainly not police investigators. Well, there exist other, profiled agencies for this", said Tudor Deliu.

Mihai Ghimpu stated on the national television on Monday that Liberal Democrat Veaceslav Ionita had changed several figures in the Tax Policy text, thus correcting the rates of taxation on casino running. As a result, a 6-million-lei damage was inflicted to the state.
