20 parties have registered in the current election campaign. Many people say it is a too big number for such a small country as Moldova. At the same time, much more parties could take part in the election campaign.
AEI leaders decide to stabilize situation in ruling coalition
LP leader Mihai Ghimpu stated after the assembly that this had to be done first of all for achieving political stability in the country.
"One of the chief aspects of stability is the availability of a president in a country. We have agreed to discuss an election possibility within a special working group, but only following the conclusion to be given by the Constitutional Court. No matter which methodology we eventually choose for electing president, we have decided to work hard and by joint effort over the perfecting of the new draft of the Constitution. When a suitable moment for the change comes, we must and we shall have a ready draft on hands", said Mihai Ghimpu.
The three AEI leaders discussed also the organization of celebrations on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Moldova's independence [August 27].
They discussed also the draft laws that need to be considered in the Parliament before the end of July, and plans for the next Autumn-Winter Session.
LDPM leader, Prime Minister Vladimir Filat remarked with pity that the three parties were late with signing an agreement on forming AEI coalitions in regional councils because a majority of Raion Chairpersons have already been elected without such paper.
