20 parties have registered in the current election campaign. Many people say it is a too big number for such a small country as Moldova. At the same time, much more parties could take part in the election campaign.

Economy Ministry maintains forecast of economic growth of 5%

The Ministry of Economy does not yet intend to review it economic growth forecast for this year, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar said, when asked to comment on the EBRD’s prognostications that the GDP growth in the European and CIS countries this year will be 4.8%, not 4.6% and as regards the dangers threatening this growth owing to the situation in some of the Eurozone states.

Valeriu Lazar said that the situation was much the same last year, when the growth in some of the Eurozone countries was rather modest, like in Italy, to which Moldova exports a large volume of products and from where money comes in the form of remittances.

"Given that the purchase capacity in the EU does not increase, the consumers pay increased attention to the new products. The Moldovan products can thus have an advantage as the price-quality ratio is more attractive," said the Deputy Prime Minister.

According to Valeriu Lazar, though the GDP growth in Moldova for the first three months of the year was 8.4%, a number of risk factors persist. "However, I will not directly connect the problems experienced in the Eurozone and the economic situation in Moldova. We may also win, not only lose. The Moldovan exporters have the chance to make themselves known by providing goods and services of a high quality. The economic growth forecast for 2011 will yet remain unchanged until autumn, at the level of 5%," he stated.
