State bakeries buy food wheat at price of 3 lei/kg
According to Vasile Bumacov, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova, the wheat purchase price will not change in the near future.
"Now, prices are quite admissible. They cover farm producers' expenses. Besides, they still have funds for investment. Wheat price is established by international exchanges and Moldova really has nothing to do but to obey them", the Agriculture Minister said.
Bumacov said that this year it is observed a decrease of grain purchase prices, adding that so far it is too early to make price forecasts.
"Russia and Ukraine, which play an important role in establishing purchase price on grain, did not finish the harvesting. Besides, wheat price depends on demand of Arab and African countries for it", the Minister said.
According to him, the government considers a possibility of additional wheat buying for the state reserve, but it is not a decided fact.
"To date, a good wheat price was established. We applied to all bakeries to stock up wheat and conclude contracts on its supplies in proper time in order to not find oneself in condition, when we are forced to stop wheat exports", Vasile Bumacov said.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry's forecast, it is expected a yield of 800 thousand tons of winter wheat in 2011. The yield amount will ensure country's food security and wheat exports may reach 200-250 thousand tons. Wheat areas in 2011 amounted to about 270 thousand hectares.
