20 parties have registered in the current election campaign. Many people say it is a too big number for such a small country as Moldova. At the same time, much more parties could take part in the election campaign.

Legitimacy of Parliamentary elections is in jeopardy due to lack of democracy - DP

INFOTAG, 8 December 2008, 18:17

Chisinau, December 8 ( INFOTAG ). In conditions when the country leadership provides unequal conditions for political rivals, the legitimacy of the 2009 parliamentary elections is in jeopardy, maintains the parliamentary Democratic Party of Moldova.

The party leadership published a statement today, expressing a deep concern over the state of things in the Moldovan press and over how the ruling party's mass media manipulate the public opinion and distort the reality.

The Democratic Party maintains the public mass media keep on misinforming the Moldovan citizenry by offering exclusively one point of view - that of the governing Communist Party, while the opposition parties have absolutely no access to the public television or radio.

"The Democratic Party has repeatedly drawn the public attention to the need for Moldova to have a free and correct press that would ensure an impartial coverage of the 2009 parliamentary campaign. The present-day state of things may practically annul the legitimacy of the 2009 elections", presume the DP leaders.
