20 parties have registered in the current election campaign. Many people say it is a too big number for such a small country as Moldova. At the same time, much more parties could take part in the election campaign.
Constitutional Court to consider opposition's complaints and results of elections at one sitting
The Constitutional Court will consider oppositional parties' complaints on violations in the course of elections and the distribution of mandates, as well as the Central Election Commission's request on the recognition of the results of elections of July 29 as valid in the course of one sitting on August 14.
According to the press service by the Constitutional Court, beside the Central Election Commission's request on the recognition of the results of elections of July 29 as valid there are two appeals from the Liberal Party and the Moldova Noastra Alliance and one from the Christian Democratic Popular Party (CDPP) to be considered by the Constitutional Court.
The former two parties disagree with the order of distributing mandates and they consider that each of them must have one mandate more. The LP has currently 15 mandates and the MNA - seven. Earlier these two parties appealed to the Chamber of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Justice, but both of these judicial instances considered that this problem is within the terms of reference of the Constitutional Court.
The CDPP considers that a number of violations were committed in the course of the elections of July 29 and demands to recalculate the votes. The Christian Democrats consider that only the recalculation of votes will exclude suspicions of the falsification of the elections results. The CDPP gained less that 2% of votes and failed to overcome the electoral threshold.
