Gagauzia Governor warns against being nose-led by MCP

Gagauzia Bashkan [Governor] Mikhail Formuzal has demanded from the autonomous region's Executive Committee to not interfere into anticipated meetings of protest, which Communist Party representatives are going to organize against the parliamentary majority's actions.
INFOTAG, 3 September 2009, 15:58

Chisinau, September 3 ( INFOTAG ). Formuzal stated at a Committee meeting today the Gagauz people may not be used as cannon fodder in somebody's political interests.

"I strongly advise you to tell citizens that each should mind his or her own business. Let them concentrate on their everyday concerns - harvesting, preparing to winter, paying more attention to families etc. It's high time we started defending our own interests. There is only one hazard to our interests - an economic crisis. Therefore, not a single Executive Committee member, not a single town or village mayor should be involved in political processes".

The Bashkan warned he would immediately fire Committee members going in for politics. He said, "If somebody wants to make politics, he or she is free to do this, but only outside the Executive Committee activities. I don't mind. Come on, go and head political parties, go to the barricades and shout there".

He addressed those who are possible going to organize rallies in support of the MCP: "You better demand from the Communists the 24 million lei they promised to provide as compensations to the Gagauzia's farm sector in crisis now, and 14.5 million lei of transfers we have short-received from the central Budget".

Mikhail Formuzal demanded from the local police to systematically supply him with information about "organizers planning to stage riots in Gagauzia".

"So far, situation here is calm. Some forces lost the elections, other won. There is nothing extraordinary about it. We need a peaceful, stable and dynamically developing region. We should not scare investors off our land", stressed the governor.
