NATO to allocate several million euros to Moldova for the removal and destruction of pesticides

The North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) will cover most of the expenditures for the removal and destruction of pesticides and chemicals dangerous for Republic of Moldova

The decision was made by NATO and Republic of Moldova today, February 10, marking the official opening of the third stage of "Clean Up Chemicals Moldova" project.

The third stage of the project, estimated at € 4 million, provides the removal and destruction of 1949 tons of pesticides in the period between 2010 and 2011. NATO pledged to cover € 3,5 million of the total amount of expenditures. The Republic of Moldova Government's contribution through the Ministry of Environment will make up € 500 thousand.

Some time ago, due to NATO's financial support, Republic of Moldova had identified and repacked 3245 tons of pesticides left on the territory of the country since Soviet times.

The "Clean Up Chemicals Moldova" project on removing unusable pesticides was launched in 2004.
