Police close Nippon for illegal imports and trade in telephones and computers

The activities of the Nippon company, which imports and trades in mobile telephones and computers, was terminated by the police.

On Friday, Oleg Putuntica of the Ministry of Interior said that the company, which owned a network of IT Ippon, Ultra Electronic, Call center shops in Chisinau and in many rayon of the republic, inflicted damage of millions of lei upon the state.

"During five years the company imported mobile telephones, computers and computer aids, as well as electric household appliances, but the company declared В understated prices and evaded from duties and taxes", he said.

In Putuntica's words, the company imported 63 thousand mobile telephones worth 39.5 million lei in 2009, but declared their cost 14 million lei less.

The company director conducted swindling operations with the help of some customs offices, who favored the contraband of thousands of mobile telephones, video devices and cameras, as well as TV sets and computers to Moldova from Austria, Germany and the Netherlands, he said.

As a result of inspections, seven storehouses of the company were sealed and four trucks with new goods were detained at the customs stations until the completion of the investigation of cases.

The director and two customs offices, suspected of contraband, were detained for 30 days. They may be sentenced to 10 years.
