Moldova signs credit agreement with WB

On Monday, Minister of Finance Veaceslav Negruta and Head of the WB Country Office to Moldova Melanie Marlette signed an agreement on granting a credit in the amount of $20 million lei to Moldova as additional financing for the "Fund of Social Investments in Moldova" (FSIM).

Melanie Marlette expressed her satisfaction with the fact that the World Bank (WB) may render assistance to Moldova in overcoming the crisis aftereffects.

She said that the financial resources will be allocated, like in the frame of the previous projects, for the construction of the infrastructure, including the construction of water systems, rehabilitation of roads and installation of gas supply. For the first time the stress will be made on creating jobs in the rural area, in particular, during the season of field works.

Minister Veaceslav Negruta designated the WB as a genuine partner, which is always ready to support Moldova in overcoming difficulties, the country faces.

He said that the credit money will be used maximally transparently and the best companies, which will offer maximally advantageous conditions, will be admitted to the tender for the right to implement works in the frame of projects.

The micro-project cost in the frame of the credit will constitute up to $100 thousand - for the rural area and up to $150 thousand - for localities, where the population numbers not more than 10 thousand residents, up to $200 thousand - for the towns, where the population numbers up to 20 thousand people.

The credit's maturity is 20 years, its annual interest rate - 0.75%, grace - 10 years The Swedish development agency allocated extra 2 million Euro to this credit. Until the present over 700 localities of the republic take advantage of this project. In accordance with the project's conditions, they covered 15% of the cost of each implemented project.
