Moldcell shareholders to invest $14 million in 2010

Until the end of the year shareholders of the Moldcеll mobile telephony operator will invest $14 million in its infrastructure development in Moldova until the end of the year.

On Monday, Lars Nyberg, Chairman of TeliaSonera, which owns the control block of shares in Fintur Holdings BV (Moldcell's majority shareholder) said in the course of his meeting with Prime Minister Vlad Filat.

According to the governmental press service, he expressed readiness to cooperation with Moldova's state institutions for the development of this enterprise and drew attention to the importance of stability and progress in the country for doing successfully business in the country.

"When the country prospers, businesses prosper, as well", Lars Nyberg remarked.

The Premier confirmed the Moldovan Government's intention to go consecutively along the way of European integration and on behalf of the Government he promised to do everything possible for the liberalization and providing the security of foreign investments in the Moldovan economy.

In Filat's words, the Government will take efforts for creating favorable conditions for the business development according to the European standards and principles for the purpose of attracting investments.

Moldcell acts in Moldova since 2000. As of the beginning of 2010 the company's network covered 97.15% of the republic's territory and was accessible to 96.81% of Moldova's population. The shareholders of Moldcell are Fintur Holdings B.V (the Netherlands), which owns 99% of shares and MolFintur - 1%; 74% of shares in TeliaSonera belongs to Fintur Holdings BV, which was set up by means of the merger of Telia (Sweden) and Sonera (Finland). The remaining shares belong to Turkcell.
