20 parties have registered in the current election campaign. Many people say it is a too big number for such a small country as Moldova. At the same time, much more parties could take part in the election campaign.

Thousands of lei to be invested in renovation of Ghidighici Lake drainage

The authorities of the capital city will allocate 250,000 lei from the local budget for repairing the drainage of Ghidighici Lake even if the pond is under the administration of Moldova's Water Agency.
Info-Prim Neo, 24 February 2010, 17:44

As the system of drains is defective, the water from the lake flows under the barrage. If the barrage breaks up, the banks of the River Byk will be flooded, said Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, who paid a fact-collecting visit to the place on February 23, Info-Prim Neo reports.

According to the mayor, the repair works will cost about 3 million lei. The head of Moldova's Water Agency Ion Lupu said they have no money for renovation. "We sent a letter to the Government, asking that it intervene, but no steps were taken," he said.

The administrator of the barrage Iacob Tereban said the drainage and barrage of Ghidighici Lake were built in 1964 and since then nobody tackled the problem of water leakage, which becomes more serious year by year.

The 250,000 lei will be allocated after the Chisinau councilors give their consent.
