Gianni Buquicchio: Venice Commission does not want to influence dialogue between Moldovan political forces
A delegation of the Venice Commission came to Chisinau to offer assistance with the constitutional reform initiated by the Alliance for European Integration. On February 25, the experts discussed with the president of the Communists Party Vladimir Voronin, while the second day they met with the leaders of the ruling coalition, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a news conference on February 26, Gianni Buquicchio said the experts of the Commission examined the Constitution of Moldova and made a number of recommendations for the Moldovan parties. He did not give other details, invoking that the Alliance for European Integration and the Communists Party are to consider the Commission's proposals and initiate "an extended dialogue" to identify solutions to the political crisis.
Gianni Buquicchio also said the negotiations only started and the Venice Commission experts do not want to influence the dialogue between the political forces. He stressed "the Communists Party became more flexible" and a solution could be found in 10-14 days.
"The Venice Commission does not impose conditions and does not interfere in the policy of the states. It only recommends ways out of political crises, basing on the legal norms" the official said.
After the meeting with the Venice Commission delegation, the leaders of the AEI told the press that their position on the possible amendments to the Constitution will be made public at the end of February or the start of March.
