All in all, the European Union will furnish to its neighbors in 2011-2013 over 5.7 billion euros to help consolidate political cooperation and develop economic integration.

The said means will come from the ENPI budget and will be used for support of political and economic reforms, regional and trans-border cooperation in 13 countries - the European Union's ENPI partners. Support will be provided also to projects in the fields of climate change, transport, energy, and environment protection.

Moldova will receive 273.1 million euros, with sums greater than this to be furnished only for Morocco (580.5 million), Ukraine (470.1 million) and Egypt (449.3 million euros).

Besides this, Moldova will be able to participate in the Eastern Measurement regional program, having a budget of 262.3 million euros with the purpose of supporting the Eastern Partnership, and in inter-regional programs (757.7 million euros).

Commenting the decision taken, the European Commission Deputy Chair, EU Foreign and Security Policy High Representative baroness Catherine Ashton said the European Union is going to attract the neighbor countries closer to the cooperation, thus proving the Union remains their reliable partner in the current hard times.

Infotag's dossier: The European Neighbourhood Policy was launched in 2004 to help develop economic integration and to support reforms necessary for stimulating the socio-economic development of the countries the partners to the European Union. Recently, the ENP was reinforced with two regional cooperation initiatives - the Union for the Mediterranean Region and the Eastern Partnership Project.
