20 parties have registered in the current election campaign. Many people say it is a too big number for such a small country as Moldova. At the same time, much more parties could take part in the election campaign.

Parliamentary majority intimidates the judiciary, Voronin says in a letter to Europeans

Moldova's former President Vladimir Voronin, the leader of the Communists Party, sent a letter to the Council of Europe, the European Commission and the embassies working in Moldova, saying the parliamentary majority intimidates the judiciary by its intention to dismiss the president of the Supreme Court of Justice Ion Muruianu.

Vladimir Voronin says Ion Muruianu's case should be examined seriously, but in fact they pursue group interests and aim to intimidate the representatives of the supreme court in the country for artificial and vindictive reasons.

"We witness actions aimed at discrediting the judicial power," Voronin says in the letter.

Ion Muruianu was invited to the last sitting of the Parliament to provide explanations over the cases in which Moldova was found guilty by the ECHR. The agenda of the same sitting included the dismissal of the president of the Supreme Court of Justice. As the quorum was not present, the proposal was not put to the vote.
