20 parties have registered in the current election campaign. Many people say it is a too big number for such a small country as Moldova. At the same time, much more parties could take part in the election campaign.
Former communist government was going to fire 5 thousand teachers - Filat
Filat said the Cabinet has declassified a document sent to former Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin by one of his Advisers.
"As can be seen from the document dated 4 July 2009, if only the former Government had remained in office until February-March 2010, it would have undertaken a package of extremely unpopular measures for the sake of coping with the crisis. The measures included: dismissal of teachers, cancellation of personal compensations, sending education workers into forcible unpaid leaves, abolishing of preferential crediting for teachers, etc. Besides that, State Budget expenditures were going to be reduced by 20%, as the then Government was expecting the budget deficit to soar by more than 8-fold", said the Prime Minister.
In his words, the letter also said that starting from 1 October 2009, the Government was supposed to return to the 2008 salary repayment conditions. This means that the salary increase (180 million lei), promised by the Communists before the parliamentary elections, was going to be abolished.
Also, the Communists were preparing to cancel regular premiums to civil servants (232 million lei), to freeze the acceptable housing construction program, and to suspend the program of compensating savings bank depositors for the savings lost due to past inflation.
Filat stated with pride, "We have not lowered salaries, have not suspended the housing construction program, and have not fired teachers because we can govern the country, and know how to use available financial means efficiently".
However, MP Iurie Muntean of the Communist Party stated to Infotag today he highly doubts the existence of such a paper. He accused the Filat Government of falsifications.
"The so-called declassified documents are being used by the incumbent leadership for blackening the Communists and for remaining afloat. Moreover, the way the Government quotes and comments declassified documents on its website is indicating that their contents are strongly distorted. But I must admit there is one field where the Filat Government is an undisputable champion - in manipulating the public opinion", Muntean said.
