20 parties have registered in the current election campaign. Many people say it is a too big number for such a small country as Moldova. At the same time, much more parties could take part in the election campaign.
Osipov: Official 5+2 format negotiations may be resumed by the end of 2010
"This means switching from unofficial meetings to official ones in the 5+2 negotiation format that were interrupted in 2006 ", Osipov stated.
The deputy prime minister mentioned that the decision was made within the meeting in Vienna to organize three more meetings this year: in May, July and October. The next unofficial meeting in 5+2 format will take place at the end of May inAstana, Kazakhstan, country holding the OSCE chairmanship.
According to Osipov, parties agreed that, within these meeting, both Chisinau and Tiraspol will be able to put forward an issue for discussion and the other party will not be able to refuse to examine this issue.
Osipov stated that, although authorities from Chisinau went to Vienna with major objectives, the decision made where nevertheless an important progress.
In addition, the official saluted the interest of the Kazakh OSCE chairmanship in the settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict, adding that Chisinau places a lot of trust in the Kazakh colleagues. „From many points of view Kazakhstan may encourage the settlement progress, because it is a country from the same post-soviet region and has better understanding of ongoing processes and also because it is a country with great economic and political potential and has the ability to negotiated with the Russian Federation. From the actions of the Kazakh chairmanship it is obvious that they want to be effective." The negotiation process in 5+2 format with the view to settle the Transdniestrian problem was interrupted at the end of February 2006, several months after its initiation.
