The decision was taken by the Supreme Council of Magistrates on March 9. A contest to select the new president was announced the same day. Applications can be filed by May 10.

The president of the Supreme Court of Justice is named by the Parliament after the Supreme Council of Magistrates examines all the candidates.

The Parliament dismissed Ion Muruianu from the post of president of the Supreme Court of Justice on March 5. He will continue to work as ordinary judge. On March 9, he received a severe reprimand from the Supreme Council of Magistrates for naming the journalists 'rabid dogs that become dangerous for the society' and accusing the mass media of 'promoting' lawyers who relate cases lost by Moldova at the ECHR.
