On Tuesday, the guest met with Moldovan Prime Minister Vladimir Filat and said he had come here to exchange opinions on the Transnistria problem in the light of the ongoing preparation for a Summit of the OSCE heads of state and government due in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana city, in December 2010.

Nurgaliyev said, the next week will see consultations between Transnistrian settlement process participants.

He pointed out that the recent informal bilateral contacts between Premier Filat and Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov should certainly promote an improvement of relations and should play a positive role in official diplomacy.

In his words, the Transnistria problem, unlike other frosted conflicts in the FSU area, inspires more optimism for settlement.

European Union Special Representative for Moldova Kalman Mizsei, who attended the meeting, remarked that the international community perceives as constructive the Moldovan Government's position on the Transnistria problem.

The Russian Federation's Representative at the Transnistrian conflict negotiations, Ambassador-at-Large Sergei Gubarev, also welcomed the informal contacts between Chisinau and Tiraspol officials, and voiced confidence the results of such rapprochement should be felt at official consultations and negotiations, and should be useful for the residents of both Dniester banks.

At the meeting, the interlocutors reaffirmed their full support for Moldova's territorial integrity and independence, and expressed readiness to a further quest for peaceful ways of resolving the Transnistria problem.

The Moldovan Prime Minister expressed hope that the decisions, which will be taken at the OSCE Astana Summit, will help resolve the Transnistria conflict.
