NATO Parliamentary Assembly speaks for withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria

The Russian Federation must remove its troops from the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, reads the Resolution on the future of the NATO-Russia relations adopted by the NATO Parliamentary Assembly at its session in Valencia (Spain).

Chisinau, November 18 ( INFOTAG ). The Russian Federation must remove its troops from the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, reads the Resolution on the future of the NATO-Russia relations adopted by the NATO Parliamentary Assembly at its session in Valencia (Spain).

The troop removal item was included into the Resolution on the request of two Moldovan parliamentarians during the session - Moldova Noastra Alliance First Deputy Chairman MP Veaceslav Untila and Deputy Chairman of the Moldovan Parliament, Christian Democratic Popular Party leader Iurie Rosca.

Untila told your Infotag correspondent that the motion authors proceeded from the 1999 OSCE Istanbul Summit accords, according to which not a single state or a group of states or an organization is eligible to regard any OSCE country as a sphere of their influence.

He said Russia must abide by its 1999 OSCE commitments and withdraw its military units and armaments from Moldova immediately.

Untila stressed that the Moldovan lawmakers' demand was backed by prominent British parliamentarian Bruce George and by the NATO PA delegations of Belgium, Georgia and Turkey.
