Chisinau, July 17 ( INFOTAG ). Basescu recalled that "in 1989 a Communist leader also did not find common language with his nation, in particularly, he did not understand the young generation".

"People striving for freedom took to Bucharest's streets then. Those were youths who wished to enter Europe but not those who elected [Romanian President Nicolae] Ceausescu", Basescu said.

He also said that he does not believe surveys pointing to bad relations between Romania and Russia given the fact that the trade between the two states has been on the rise, while the number of political contacts increased.

Basescu also said he did not believe that Moscow might be interested in spoiling relations with Romania because of Romanian-Moldovan ties.

According to him, "Russia has interests both in Moldova and Romania".
